The competition will take place in two age categories.

Rules: 1. Performers must perform exclusively from the original scores. 2. Younger candidates can perform in the higher category, but older candidates may not perform in the lower category. 3. Winners of the 1st prize at the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th International Saxophone Competition (Krško 2001, Nova Gorica 2003, 2005 or 2007) are only permitted to perform in the higher category. 4. The competitor has an official accompanist available. 5. The competitor is obliged to present an identification document prior to the competition. 6. The competitor must prepare five copies of the piano reduction of the compositions selected (including the Rapsodie in Category 2). 7. The order of performance will be determined by a public draw prior to the competition. 8. The organiser retains all rights to public recording and broadcast.
Rules for the Work of the Jury: 1. In the case that a jury member is absent due to unforeseen circumstances the president of the jury has the right to decided in any difficult situations that may arise. 2. The jury member assesses each competitor with points from 1 to 100 (50 points represents an acceptable performance). 3. In Category 1, the final assessment is calculated as the average points from the qualification and the final (this will not be publicly announced prior to the end of the competition). 4. In Category 2 the final assessment is calculated as the average points from the qualification, the semi-final and the final (this will not be publicly announced prior to the end of the competition). 5. In addition to three (3) prize winners in each category, the jury members also select:
- the best performance of a composition by a Slovene composer (both categories),
- the best performance by a musician between the age of 16 and 19, who studies or lives in Europe, and who demonstrates great musicality and characterful, inspiring playing. 6. If the juror is a relative of the performer, or is the performer’s current or prior teacher, the juror does not assess the performer. 7. On behalf of the jury, the president can halt the performance of a performer, if demanded by the time limitations of the competition. 8. The decision of the jury is final. There will be an opportunity to discuss the jury’s decisions with the jury members after the conclusion of the competition.

3rd prize: SEQUOIA soprano saxophone - ROBERTO BUTTUS; 200 € award - SAKSOFONIJA MUSIC SOCIETY; a gift voucher by RICO.
Special prizes:
EMCY - The European Union of Music Competitions for Youth – presents 'EMCY Art for Music Prize' certificate and a graphic artwork to a musician between the age of 16 and 19, who studies or lives in Europe, and who demonstrates great musicality and characterful, inspiring playing.
DSS - The Society of Slovene Composers will present winners in each category with practical prizes: two editions from Society of Slovene Composers, and two CDs from the collection ‘Ars SlovenicA’.
SLOWAY Music Editions will award the best performance of Slovenian composition in each category with two editions of new Slovenian saxophone music.
All candidates will receive a certificate of attendance.

One rehearsal (30 min) with the official accompanist

The desired number of rehearsals with the accompanist (maximum of three) must be indicated on the registration form.
We recommend that candidates are accompanied by their own accompanist.
The number of participants is limited. Places will be allocated according to the date of receipt of the completed registration form. The deadline for application is Friday 12 June 2009 (date of postmark). In the case of participant cancellation the organiser will retain 20% of the participation fee to cover administrative expenses.
