    Rules for the participants:

    1. The competitor must perform exclusively from the original sheet music, not photo-copies.
    2. A younger competitor can perform in the higher category, vice versa is not possible.
    3. Winners of the 1st prize at the International Saxophone Competition in Slovenia (Krško 2001, Nova Gorica from 2003 to 2009) are only permitted to perform in the higher category.
    4. An official accompanist is available to all the competitors.
    5. The competitor is obliged to present an identification document prior to the competition.
    6. The competitor must prepare five copies of the (piano) score of the selected works.
    7. The order of performance will be determined by a public draw prior to the competition.
    8. The organizer retains all rights to public recording and broadcasting as well as publishing on audio and/or video releases.

    Rules of the Jury:

    1. The Jury comprises of the president and four members: Jean-Yves Fourmeau - the president, Matjaž Drevenšek, Daniel Gauthier, Lars Mlekusch and Miha Rogina - the members.
    2. In the case that a Juror is absent due to unforeseen circumstances, the president of the Jury has the right to decide in any difficult situations that may arise.
    3. The Juror assesses each competitor with points from 1 to 100 (50 points represents an acceptable performance).
    4. The final assessment for Category 1 is carried out from the average of points won in the Preliminaries (which are not officially published until the end of the Competition) and the points won in the Finale.
    5. The final assessment for Category 2 is carried out from the average of points won in the Preliminaries, in the Semi-Final (which are not officially published until the end of the Competition) as well as from the points won in the Finale.
    6. Apart from three (3) prize winners in Category 1 and five (5) prize winners in Category 2, the Jurors also select:
    - the best interpretation of a composition written by a Slovene composer;
    - the best performance by a musician between the age of 16 and 19, who studies or lives in Europe, and who demonstrates great musicality and characterful, inspiring playing.
    7. In case the Juror is related to a competitor or is his/her current teacher, the Juror does not assess the competitor.
    8. On behalf of the Jury, the president can halt the performance of a performer, if demanded by the time limitations of the competition.
    9. The Jury has the right to allocate less than the specified maximum number of participants for the Preliminaries and the Finale.
    10. The Jury’s decision is final and not subject to appeal. Once the competition is over, the competitors may opt for a discussion with the Jurors.

    * A recital, awarded by the Society of Slovene Composers: the winner has to play a mostly Slovenian programme including at least one premiere of a new piece for saxophone and piano (a 7- to 10- minute-long piece) by a Slovenian composer.     Special prizes:

    • The Slovene competitor with the best assessment will be awarded a concert honorarium in an amount of €500 – a concert staged as a part of the 16th International Saxophone Meeting, which will take place in Nova Gorica in 2012 - the prize is awarded by Nova Gorica Arts Centre.
    • The participant who will provide the best performance of a Slovene piece of music will be awarded a Nova Gorica Award – a certificate and a graphic artwork by Slovene academic painter Ana Zavadlav - the prize is awarded by the Municipality of Nova Gorica.
    • All the participants performing in the Finale will be awarded a CD set recorded in the production or co-production with the Saksofonija Music Society.
    • EMCY - The European Union of Music Competitions for Youth – presents 'EMCY Art for Music Prize' certificate and a graphic artwork by the German artist Gottfried Jäger to a musician between the age of 16 and 19, who studies or lives in Europe, and who demonstrates great musicality and characterful, inspiring playing.
    All candidates will receive a certificate of attendance.

    The desired number of rehearsals with the accompanist (maximum of three) must be indicated on the registration form.
    We recommend that candidates are accompanied by their own accompanist.

    The number of participants is limited. Places will be allocated according to the date of receipt of the completed registration form. The deadline for application is Friday June 10, 2011 (date of postmark). In the case of participant cancellation the organiser will retain 20% of the participation fee to cover administrative expenses.
