TUITION FEE FOR THE SUMMER SCHOOL OF SAXOPHONE: 60,000 SIT (252 €).

TUITION FEE FOR THE MASTERCLASS with JEAN-YVES FOURMEAU, which will be held on 29th June 2006, is 20,000 SIT (85 €). The price is intended for the quartets which will attend only the Jean-Yves Fourmeau masterclass. The masterclass is free of charge for participants of the International School of Saxophone.

ATTENTION: Only quartets which have been around for a relatively long period of time qualify for the masterclass.

The number of participants is limited. The list will follow the order of incoming registrations. The closing date is Monday, 5th June 2006 (date as postmark). In case of subsequent cancellation the organiser retains 20 % of the tuition fee as reimbursement for administration costs.

    Lev Pupis (Slovenia), artistic director

    After completing Secondary Music School and graduating from Poljane Secondary School in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Lev Pupis went to Music University in Vienna to study saxophone, where he graduated cum laude in 1998 in the class of Prof. Vrhovnik. He studied saxophone between 2000 and 2003 in Paris, where he graduated in the class of J. Y. Fourmeau (Premier Prix) and completed a specialist course with Vincent David.During his studies he received several awards at music competitions at home and abroad. He has performed as a solioist and played chamber concerts in Vienna, Skopje, Paris, Ljubljana, Aveiro, Zagreb and Valencia.Accompanied by an orchestra he played Scaramouche by Darius Milhaud as a soloist for the Vienna Radio House. As an orchestral musician he plays with renowned symphonic orchestras such as the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra of the Vienna Radio House, RTV Slovenija Symphonic Orchestra, Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of the Slovenian Army and others. As well as being a soloist and chamber musician, Pupis teaches saxophone at secondary music schools in Ljubljana and Celje and has been saxophone tutor at the Summer School of Saxophone in Nova Gorica for several years. This year, he is also its artistic director.In 2005 Pupis received a master’s degree cum laude from Music University in Vienna, earning the title of magister artium. He is currently attending a specialist post-graduate course of saxophone at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana under the direction of Matjaž Drevenšek. He is a member and co-founder of Ensemble 4SAXESS, Trio Ad Libitum and duo Sax.Org.

    Jean-Yves Fourmeau (France)

    Successor to the great French school of classical saxophone, Jean-Yves Fourmeau belongs to a group of musicians who enthusiastically bear high the colours of their instrument. He makes the saxophone shine in the light of his many skills: as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestrator and teacher. He has had an exceptional career: he won the first prize of the CNSM of Paris when he was only 17 and the third cycle of chamber music saxophone and piano, he has played saxophone solo at the Berliner Philharmoniker, has been a soloist at Radio France, founded the quartet which bears his name and is recognised as one of the best ensembles on the international level. He is a professor at the Cergy-Pontoise National Conservatoire in Paris, where students from around the world come to follow his courses. He was a guest professor at the Indiana University Bloomington (2000-2001), did artistic consulting for Yamaha, and contributes to the artistic development and acoustic improvements of the saxophone. He is also director of collection at editions “Billaudot” and contributes to widening the repertoire of the saxophone. Fourmeau gives concerts and masterclasses in Europe, Asia, Canada, the USA and Australia. He has recorded eleven CDs and he is the only saxophonist distributed by the “Philips classic” label.

    Jasper Blom (Netherlands)

    Jasper Blom is a leading tenor and soprano saxophonist of the young Dutch jazz generation and one of the most versatile players in the Benelux region. He studied among others with Dave Liebman, Bob Brookmeyer, Herb Geller and Joe Lovano and has performed with Lee Konitz, Chet Baker, Nat Adderley, Bob Brookmeyer, George Duke, Randy Crawford, David Liebman, Conrad Herwig and many other internationally acclaimed musicians.He has won the European Jazz Award twice and has played at major jazz festivals in Europe, Asia, the Carribean and Canada and in clubs throughout Europe and the USA. As a band leader he has recorded five CDs of music ranging from energetic hardbop to free open improvised music. Blom is currently active as a player and composer of both contemporary improvised music and jazz, can be heard regularly throughout Netherlands and Europe as an active player in different musical settings and teaches jazz saxophone at the conservatory of Amsterdam.Blom leads a trio called Red, Yellow & Blue (featuring drummer Martijn Vink and bass player Frans van der Hoeven) that combines acoustic jazz with electronics. He has an acoustic trio with pianist Harmen Fraanje and the world renowned bass player Hein van de Geyn. Together with New York-based pianist David Berkman he co-leads the quartet Dialect, which has amongst others included Tom Rainey, Matt Wilson and Ed Schuller.With Monk award-winning top guitarist Jesse van Ruller, he also co-leads a quartet featuring Willie Jones III. He is a member of Italian masterpianist Enrico Pieranuzzi’s European Quintet, Dutch drum veteran Pierre Courbois’ sextet, the free improv big band Tetzepi, Marc van Vugts Big Bizar Habit, the Fernando Lameirinhas band, Corrie van Binsbergens, Grote Brokken and many other bands.

    Miha Rogina (Slovenia)

    Miha Rogina studied at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana in the class of Matjaž Drevenšek, at the Cergy-Pontoise National Conservatoire in Paris in the class of Jean-Yves Fourmeau, and at the CNR in Versailles with Vincent David. He further perfected his techiques at the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in the USA with Chien-Kwan Lin and Matt Pivec. He is now about to complete his studies at the National Music Conservatoire in Paris in the class of Claude Delangle.Rogina has won eight first prizes at international competitions and two first prizes at the national competition in Slovenia. Among those especially worth mentioning are the first prize at the Marco Fiorindo in Italy, the first prize at the Pacem in terris brass section competition in Bayreuth, Germany, the first prize at the Adolphe Sax - L’Hay-Les Roses competition in Paris and the first prize at a brass section competition in Benidorm, Spain.He has given concerts in Europe, China, the USA and Japan, and has played as a soloist with orchestras suhc as the Hof Symphonic Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Slovene Philcharmonic and the Maribor Philharmonic. He has received a Prešeren Student Award for his outstanding achievements.

    Primož Fleischman (Slovenia)

    Primož Fleischman attended the Secondary Music and Ballet School in Ljubljana, where he studied at the departments for theory, instruments and jazz. He graduated cum laude from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana in 1998 in the class of Matjaž Drevenšek and also studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA. He has received three first prizes at national competitions for young musicians, one of them being won with a quartet of saxophones, with which he has also received the Škerjanec Award, given out by the Secondary School he attended, and the Mini Prize of the City of Ljubljana. He has played as a soloist with several orchestras, including the Big band RTV Slovenija, Slovene Philcharmonic, RTV Slovenija Symphonic Orchestra, Orchestra of the Slovene Opera and Ballet House, Brass Orchestra of the Slovene Police Forces and the Big band of the Slovene Army. Together with the group Stop the band, he recorded in 1998 a CD which has received four Zlati petelin (Golden Rooster) awards, including for best jazz CD and best jazz performance. Fleischman has appeared at international jazz festivals in Ljubljana, Idrija, Maribor, Warsaw, Rome, Novi Sad, Belgrade, Zagreb, Kumanovo, Split, Rijeka, Šibenik, Graz, Vienna, Brussels, Istanbul and Paris. He plays in various bands such as the international jazz sextet European Jazz Conection, world music ensamble Fake Orchestra, pop-folk band Caminoigra, the classical quartete of saxophones Ensemble 4SAXESS, the quartet of singer-songwriter Boris Cavazza, Croatian fusion group Elvis Stanić Group and others.He plays first alto saxophone in the Big band RTV Slovenija, he teaches saxophone at the jazz department at the the Secondary Music and Ballet School in Ljubljana and is finishing his master’s studies in jazz analysis at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, department for composition.

    Zoltan Peter (Slovenia), piano accompanist

    Zoltan Peter completed Secondary Music School in Subotica, Serbia-Montenegro, under the direction of Marija Sekelj, and pursued his academic studies in the class of Arbo Valdma at the Academy of Fine Arts in Novi Sad, Serbia-Montenegro. He completed his piano studies at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, Slovenia.He has performed as a soloist, chamber musician and a piano accompanist for all generations of top musicians in Slovenia and abroad. He has also performed in Italy, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia-Montenegro, Macedonia, the former Soviet Union, Germany, Switzerland as well as at festivals of contemporary music in Zagreb and Opatija (in Croatia), and Novi Sad and Herceg Novi (in Serbia-Montenegro). As a soloist, he has worked with many conductors: Igor Gjadrov, Simon Robinson, Berislav Skenderović, Elvira Huszar, Hermann Ostendarp, Guido Mancuzzi and many others. He has recorded a number of compositions for the public broadcasters RTV Slovenija, RTV Beograd, RTV Novi Sad and HRT as well as seven CDs of solo and chamber pieces for the Založba kaset in plošč RTV Slovenija label and others. One of the finest chamber musicians and piano accompanists who masters an extensive repertoire, Peter often takes part in domestic and international masterclasses and competitions. As well as teaching and giving concerts, he gives seminars for piano students, teachers and piano accompanists in Slovenia and abroad.
